As a Registered Social Worker with over thirty-five years of experience in working with families and children, I bring practical and useful insight to encourage individuals to make the changes they want to make. Working with individuals and families in adoption and child protection has been an important part of my life. My background of working with people who experience developmental limitations, mental health challenges, family crisis, and changing family dynamics through adoption, leads me to have a passion for teaching and guiding people as they adjust to life situations and make the changes they choose to make. I welcome the inclusion of faith as part of the counselling process in addition to using widely accepted evidence based treatment tools.
I am available for counselling and have extensive training in areas of adoption, attachment, grief and loss, trauma, and building healthy relationships. I am also trained to support people in regard to self esteem, depression and anxiety and continue to access regular training opportunities. I tend to work from a respectful strength-based perspective and use principles such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Attachment Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, as needed, in collaboration with clients based on stated needs and wishes. I value the importance of helping you find strength from within your support network of friends and family, including from your own spiritual beliefs, by building on your existing skills and by encouraging you to learn new ways of dealing with problems.
